Satriani sues Coldplay
Posted December 5, 2008, by Steve Lampiris
So it seems that guitar god Joe Satriani is suing Coldplay for plagiarism. He claims that “Viva La Vida” sounds just a tad too much like his 2004 composition “If I Could Fly.” Satriani is “seeking a jury trial, damages and ‘any and all profits’ attributable to the alleged copyright infringement,” according to Reuters. For those that want to inspect… View entire post »

Reality meets its ‘Twilight’ years
Posted November 20, 2008 by Steve Lampiris
This whole “Twilight” business is fucking out of control. The most recent additiion to the insanity behind the book series-turned-film is found in a recent piece in the L.A. Times wherein Forks, Washington (the city where the books take place) is now being inundated with fans wanting to have their pictures taken in front of Forks High School. Some fans… View entire post »

Darren Lynn Bousman: “Douchebag”
Posted November 12, 2008 by Steve Lampiris
An odd title, I know. But the director himself openly admits it. And then scolds critics for labeling him as such. “One of the critics actually called me a douchebag. Which, I am a douchebag, but this guy doesn’t fucking know me to call me a douchebag.” The problem with that logic is that Bousman admit to being a “douchebag,”… View entire post »

Review: iPod Nano
Posted November 11, 2008 by Sarah Probst
Admittedly, I’m not much of a technological kind of gal. Programming a VCR or defragging a hard drive are my two greatest achievements in regards to the world of wires and waves. In fact, I’m more like a trained chimp who knows how to press the “fast forward” button when something displeases me. So, when it came to the recently… View entire post »

Beatles in video game form?
Posted November 2, 2008 by Sarah Probst
According to this article from Rolling Stone, the Beatles are soon to hit a new medium - the video game. Meant to span the prolific band’s entire catalog, this game isn’t just a “Guitar Hero” knock-off, it’s going to be an “experiential journey” through the band’s music. Apparently, the game was developed with input from Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono and… View entire post »

Zeppelin to tour without Plant
Posted October 28, 2008 by Sarah Probst
What’s Led Zeppelin without Robert Plant? This is kind of the opposite of “Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet?” How can a band that has such a long history and great following tour under the same name when its composition has changed? Sure, the Doors did it, most indie rock bands do it now, but this… View entire post »

Fashion Fridays done in style
Posted October 19, 2008 by Sarah Probst
Story by Jessica Gressa Madison is no fabulous fashion hub, yet the scene on Friday night could have fooled anyone. The industrial, minimalist penthouse was filled with a diverse crowd, sipping and socializing. DJ Christian Rock mixed electronic music, heightening the anticipation. The center focus was a raised runway extending out from a lit white wall, the epitome of any… View entire post »

Finally, a rational explanation
Posted October 6, 2008 by Steve Lampiris
It would seem that anyone who is into popular music inherently “knows” that old music is better than new music. The Beatles just made better records than Radiohead. To them, it’s a fact. And probably true. But there’s never been an actual argument as to why that is or even might be - why Nick Drake is better than Damien… View entire post »

This *has* to be true
Posted September 29, 2008 by Steve Lampiris
From the “you just can’t this stuff up” file…. A woman wrote to the manners and morals advice column (written by someone calling herself ‘Prudence’) at Slate.com asking guidance about her boyfriend. The problem? He is sexually aroused by death metal. Yes, this particular guy is better in bed when there’s Cannibal Corpse in the background than not, according to… View entire post »

‘Geeks’ Unite in Humanities
Posted September 28, 2008 by Alex Garens
No, Halloween didn’t come early this year. The custom-clad troupes you may have seen in the State Street area this weekend were actually celebrating Madison’s second annual GeeK.Kon, the city’s very own, yet little, convention to embrace and rejoice over all things geeky, from anime and sci-fi to gaming miniatures and video gaming. Hosted yet again in the labyrinthine Humanities… View entire post »

Led Zeppelin minus Rob? (update - 9/26; update 2 - 9/29)
Posted September 24, 2008 by Steve Lampiris
Yes, that is a possibility if the rest of the current incarnation of Led Zeppelin (Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham, son of John) doesn’t get a “yes” as to whether or not Robert Plant wants to tour with them. Apparently, the rest of the band has been rehearsing with “stand-in vocalists” including an unnamed American who “has… View entire post »

Story by Roland Nimis Thao with the Get Down Stay Down, Thao Nguyen’s folk-rock-pop band from San Francisco, plays a fun show that is nothing you are dying to tell your friends about.
