Men’s soccer names new head coach
When Jeff Rohrman resigned as head coach of the UW men’s hockey team after seven seasons at the helm, the Badgers were left with a coaching vacancy. Men’s hockey: Goloubef makes Team Canada
Wisconsin’s sophomore defenseman Cody Goloubef has been named to Team Canada for this year’s World Junior Championship, set to take place in Ottawa Dec. 26 and running through Jan. 5. “It’s a real big deal in Canada,” Goloubef said of the World Juniors last week before the tryout. “It’s a very well-respected tournament, so it’s definitely going to be an honor to put that jersey on if I make the team. Badger hockey cracks Top 20
After reeling off a five-game winning streak following a weekend sweep of Alaska Anchorage, the UW men’s hockey team (9-7-2, 7-5-2 WCHA) is back in the national polls, garnering the No. 16 spot in the USCHO.com poll.The Badgers were the second-highest unranked team receiving votes last week but jumped six spots after 3-2 and 7-2 victories over the Seawolves. UW has now lost just once in its last 11 games—a 6-2 loss to St. Cloud State—after beginning the season 0-6-1. Geoffrion could play in holiday tournament
The Wisconsin men’s hockey team saw its captain Blake Geoffrion helped off the ice Friday night against Alaska Anchorage after suffering an apparent ankle injury. What appeared at the time to be rather serious—Geoffrion was grabbing his leg in obvious pain and didn’t return the rest of the weekend—might not end up to be quite as bad as initially thought. Geoffrion walked into the media room after UW’s 7-2 win Saturday wearing a boot on his left foot. Following the win, head coach Mike Eaves said Geoffrion’s status will be week-to-week.
